    Botanical Tours

The April to June  2013 issue of our magazine, A Garden View, is now online! With Gardens' news and upcoming activities, features, book and web reviews, family activities and a look at Bonsai, it will keep you up-to-date with what's happening!

Which plant did Adam and Eve take as a reminder of the Garden of Eden? What was the Burning Bush?

These and other questions are addressed along our plant-filled Bible Path. Explanations are in Hebrew, Arabic and English, and an audio guide can be picked up at the ticket desk (currently only in Hebrew). Featured plants include the Cedar of Lebanon, Papyrus, Bulrush, Mandrake, Wheat, and Christ's Thorn Jujube.  The Gardens will shortly be marketing its new innovative, interactive, online course - Flora of the Holy Land.

Botanical Tour to Armenia

Armenia is a small country located in the southern Caucasus that is still off the beaten track for western tourists, for historical reasons. Located at the crossroads between the drier areas of Iran and the more temporate climes of the Caucasus and Europe, it offers a variety of landscapes, from deciduous forests, wet alpine and dry mountainous areas to wide, grassy plains. Some 3,500 species grow wild in Armenia, many of them unique (endemic) to this area.

The eight-day tour will be lead by botanist Hagar Leschner, Director of the National Herbarium at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. For additional information (in Hebrew) Click here

From the Director General

Dear Visitor,

It is said that ten measures of beauty descended upon the world and that nine of them were taken by Jerusalem. That's quite a reputation to live up to!

At the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens, we are constantly working to create a place of beauty, tranquility and peace in the heart of our complex city; to provide green vistas, enchanted corners, cooling water pools, and the largest plant collection in the country.

We welcome visitors from all sectors of society, from Jerusalem, Israel and overseas and we try to offer something for everyone, from tours and educational programs, to festivals and cultural events.

Please visit us, join our Friends organization, and become part of our efforts to green the City of Gold!
